Fuck that iPad shit. Fuck it good. I've been eying those Android tablets something fierce ever since I played with one in a Verizon store. For one, Android is just way cooler and betterer. For two, it's so much fun to play with one of those things. 9 goddamn screens, man! :D (For three, I really dislike Apple (products).) And it looks like I may someday soon actually get one?! According to predictions, the price of some of the simpler Android tablets could have them as low as $49 by Black Friday . So I'm writing this on a TV. That is, my super fabtastic desktop tower is currently hooked up to my parents Dynex HD TV of 1080p magnificence. It's pretty sweet, not gonna lie. I'd been dreaming/thinking of this for a good long while--ever since I saw the VGA port on teh back of of it---but never really got the chance to try it until this weekend when my parents went out of town for their anniversary. I wasn't sure if it would be worth it: it was only VGA, this computer, for all its other awesomeness, lacks an HDMI port. It's turned out pretty alright, actually--right now it's happily churning out at a resolution of 1600 x 1200, and doesn't look too bad, either. Someday I may get a video card for this computer with an HDMI port (I may not always get to use this TV massiveness but after this bit of spoiling.....I may put "pretty new monitor" on my wishlist....). Yes, my babies, I am still alive. I kinda half killed my computer--let's go with  put it in a coma--temporarily, of course! --but it's all better now. Runs better than ever. I'm worried that all the time I spent trying to figure out vlogging and shit has cut into time I could--and honestly should--have spent on tomorrow's Bad Movie Monday review. Like, I haven't even decided what movie I'm reviewing. Goddamnit. And I was getting so good at this time management thing. Meanwhile, I'm beginning to feel confident about where these vlogging attempts have gotten me. Parker's gonna hiss something about linux sucking, but I'd been having trouble with the sound not syncing or frame rate/image sucking. Frankly I think most of *my* linux problems derive from the open-source experimental driver I'm using for my nvidia card. That or linux hasn't conquered the quadcore processor yet. Threading issues. Messy. But the last couple attempts I did last night came out pretty alright, I thought. I'll have to dress-rehearse it with the better lighting, angle, location, etc, to really see but at least it  looks a little nicer. Somed...

It's articles like these that don't much faze me. Mainly cuz I'm nerd enough to already know some of this stuff. Also, it makes a callout to a WEP hacking software platform I'm more than slightly familiar with *ahem*. No, not the main thing they're talking about in the article--Firesheep. No, just good ole Aircrack-ng. I mainly use it to get some internets when I need'em and don't have a WEP key for any of the available wifi networks. There are ways of using Aircrack-ng and related software to steal people's identities and passwords and stuff, but that's hardly what I'm interested in (or knowledgeable enough about XD). Anyway, so I'm not all that surprised to hear that, yet again, there's some big ugly weakness--privacy or otherwise--readily present in the internets. Just knowing and playing with and reading up on Aircrack has taught me plenty about the pitfalls of internet/cyber security. I will admit that I'm somewhat surpris...

See, I ordered a wireless keyboard for my computer, and it arrived yesterday. And it works like sex on toast, baby. My old keyboard was just that--old. And wired. The latter wasn't such a bother until I set up the new desk, as you'll understand in a just moment. Meanwhile the keys stuck--don't even start--and made a shitton of noise (I only fully realized how obnoxious this was when I started using the new keyboard) and otherwise looked ugly and out of place. Also, I had a plan. See, the middle bit of the new desk's desktop is actually a flap that lifts up to reveal....well, a space. A sort of drawer. It's kinda funny--the title of this post is itself an obscure reference to Doctor Who*. But, seriously, my dorktronic levels these last few weeks have been running dangerously high.... Besides watching Doctor Who (actually, less so than I've been known to...), I've really taken to watching/mocking bad movies (have you noticed?), both already MST3k'd and not. The other week I decided to switch over to Dvorak keyboard layout --in fact I'm trying to write this whole post with it as practice. The way I see it, the 3 biggest things I'll likely spend much of the rest of my life doing will involve lots of typing--writing, computering, and temping--and i can do without the repetitive strain injuries...yeah. I've also been fiddling with mah linuxes lots--I've put Linux Mint 9 LXDE on my laptop. Dunno if i'll keep it or go back to regular Linux Mint or try out the KDE flavor.
